I've been using my iPad for a few months. While the iPad is a great device for browsing content and consuming media, I find it lacking for productivity apps.
The iPad's software keyboard is fair for small edits, but compared to the dasKeyboard that I'm typing this review on, the experience leaves a lot to be desired. Plus I find common edit commands (for instance copy and paste) to be tedious with the touch screen. Because of this, I started looking for cases that would allow the iPad to stand vertically for use with an external keyboard. Some searching brought me to the Quirky Cloak.
Quirky sources their product ideas from their users, and some portion of the sales proceeds go back to the users who helped design the product. I ordered the cloak because it offered a wide range of display options, allowing the device to be stood up vertically, horizontally, or in a typing mode. The case received a lot buzz from potential owners, but its release was delayed for many months after the iPad came on the market. When it started shipping, I ordered my for $54.99 and received it today.
My initial impression is that the cloak is HEAVY. In fact it weighs almost as much as the iPad itself. The case has an over engineered feel that might result from collaborative design of the product. Nobody wants to see their favorite feature on the cutting room floor, even if the final result is a bulky product.
So, my one word review of the Quirky Cloak: clunky.
